NETGroup Solutions is a management owned South African based professional services enterprise established in 1987. NETGroup officially took office at TANESCO in May 2002, for two years under a Management Support Service Contract (MSSC). NETGroup has divisions servicing the energy, water, telecommunications, industrial, mining, institutional and e-commerce markets. NETGroup provides consulting, information technology and engineering services to utilities, infrastructure development agencies and resource management enterprises throughout Africa and Internationally.
A technology support office, (Technology House), develops new technologies and products for the group. Leading-edge technologies in the field of spatial planning, field-to-office systems and web-based applications for managing spatial operations, have been developed by Technology House since the early 1990’s.
NETGroup employs a multi-skilled work force of 185, comprising engineers, technologists, GIS experts, database experts and programmers. NETGroup undertakes major national and international projects in conjunction with its international partners in the USA, Germany, UK and Bulgaria.
The role of
NET Group in Tanzania was as follows:

To restructure
and unbundle the electricity sector into five units namely
generation, transmission, distribution, corporate services
and electrification.

To develop the
electricity trading arrangements and regulatory environment
in the electricity sector.

To develop the
approach to improving access to electrification (rural
electrification) and to meet universal service obligations.

To advise on
the privatization transactions for the companies which
have been created as part of the restructuring process.
The
NetGroup contract with the Government of Tanzania ended on
31st December, 2006.
